Need some help with a speedometer problem. I have replaced the "shear pin" twice at the right angle drive on my 67 P1800. Speedometer cable is new. Speedo will work for a few miles then the shear pin shreds.

Help please.

Eric,

Thanks for the suggestion. The R angle drive had been tampered with prior to my purchase of the car. It was missing the oil seal and the gear. The drive appears to function OK. What should I look for as a sign it is "coming apart?"

Hello,

Check that the tube that is attached to the pot metal hub of the angle drive is tight.

If it is loose, the gears inside can bind and then seize.

Does the angle drive still have the end cap that is retained by the penned over edge of the pot metal hub?

To which seal do your refer?

Hello,

What is the condition of the angle drive?

Is it coming apart?

When the angle drive starts to come apart, it can seize and then the drive pin will break.
