How to Test Oxygen Sensor for 95 944 900 1995

How do I test the oxygen sensor on a 95 940 n/a with Bosch fuel injection?

The FAQ only refers to testing oxygen sensors with the two connections, not the type that was produced for 94-95 940s with only one connection.

The reason I'm asking is that I've been getting terrible mileage lately, about 14 MPG. FPR is about 2 years old, and the attached vacuum line does not contain the odor or presence of gas. Additionally, I have no codes.

first of all it a long known fact gas mileage disappoints in the very cold months and this winter is surely that.

the easiest way to determine if your sensor is kaput or on its way is to disconnect all of the sensor connectors at the firewall. i am pretty sure you have a heated sensor which means you have at least 3 wires coming out of the sensor.....the information wire and 2 heater wires. you might even have 4 wires.

to disconnect it you MUST disconnect all of the wires not just the information wire.

your engine will default to running rich. if the car mileage is the same it is likely the sensor is faulty.

the other way of testing is too measure voltage swings after the sensor is FULLY warmed up by intercepting the signal coming out of the single wire. ...range .2-.9 and FAST swings.

I'm surprised they don't have heated 02 sensors. Neverthe less, the test is the same, voltmeter + to the sensor wire, - to ground. Should read varying from 0.2 to 0.8 or 0.9 .

(while waiting for the 7/9 folks to respond)

I think they indeed do have heated sensors, just like anything beyond 1985. But the OP is confused by the single connector housing, and possibly the four-wire sensor, and needing the color code to distinguish between heater wires, sensor ground, and sensor output. Otherwise all testing is the same.
