740 turn signal not working 700

My 1992 740 wagon's left rear turn signal light stopped working. I noticed this because the signal inside on the dash blinked overly fast when I switched on the left turn signal. I replaced the bulb (which appeared to have a good filament inside)but it still doesn't work. I switched in the right one (that is working)and that didn't work. Any suggestions? Thanks.
