Aftermarket armrest- Dumb Question. 200 1985

I recently bought an aftermarket armest for my 1985 DL Sedan. (no cupholders, I just need a place to rest my arm) Anyhow, Ebay purchase, no directions..I see where the longer bolts provided go into the driveshaft tunnel..but how the heck does this thing go in? It has two longer metal pieces with various holes, and two triangular shaped brackets....anyone have photos or a diagram for this item? I'm not sure how it supports my arm. It may not be aftermarket..but its and older unit that doesn't have a a cupholder. Thanks for any help or photos.

1985 DL 149,500 miles, A/T, no rust, recently purchased for orig owners.

Aftermarket armrest- Dumb Question. 200 1985

The armrests in my 240 cars only have the long flat metal
pieces that bolt in using the same heavy screws that hold the
front seat belts. The bolts are near the back of the center
console, right below the rear ash tray. You just have to
tighten the screws really tight to hold the rest in place.
The one you mentioned with the triangle brackets, I have seen
that model on ebay, but I would not bolt anything into the
plastic center console or you will soon have a cracked/broken
center console.

Good Luck,
Joseph Segura

Aftermarket armrest- Dumb Question. 200 1985

I know that at least some of the 240 armrests attached to existing screws on the sides of the center console - near the seat belt attachment points. Pay attention looking around down there; as I recall there are two screws on each side.

Sorry I don't have more specific information. My experience on these is limited to having examined two that were on cars I saw only briefly.

Aftermarket armrest- Dumb Question. 200 1985

Right. Mine from Volvo had the two large bolts that go into the drive shaft tunnel. Plus two smaller screws that went into the e-brake console. That's so when someone leans against the arm rest it puts torque pressure on the plastic console and breaks it. After replacing my console I tossed the arm rest into the dumpster.

I don't know about any aftermarket armrests but when I got mine it didn't come with any bolts except for the long hinge bolt. I found out that the bolts at the bottom are the same as the bolts that attach your front seatbelts to the side pillar, FWIW. Good Luck!
