bkake shoe problem

I just discovered that my the pads on my right rear brake shoe had separated from the shoe. Has anybody else had this experience? Any suggestions for sources for riveted brake shoes? Thanks, Mac

What car is this ? Pads usually refer to disk brakes. Shoes refer to drum brakes. The friction material on brake shoes is usually refered to as brake linings.

Chalk it up to bad luck and put in a new set of shoes/pads.

This is NOT an "ALL ALL" question!

Hello,

I prefer bonded brake shoe linings.

Mostly because when they do finally start to go metal to metal, less damage is done to the drum.

With riveted shoes, the damage is more localized on the rivets and then the rivets do way more damage to the VERY EXPENSIVE drums.

And bonded shoes last longer as the area for holding the rivets takes up wearable depth of the shoe.

I occasionally have shoes that become unbonded.

Quite often this is due to a bad axle seal leaking gear oil onto the brake shoes.
