Would this work for the crank pulley? $9.99 tool from Harbor Freight. 200

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=66385

Yes, it's from Harbor Freight. I know there are a lot of strong opinions concerning their tools, however that is not the point of this post. The point is, this could be a viable alternative to the 45 dollar crank tool from ipd or fcp.

I saw this same tool at a Harbor Freight and gave it consideration when planning to do two 240 timing belt changes. Wasn't convinced that it had any advantage over the rope trick. Used the rope trick on those two 240's and will use it next on my 760. Rope is cheap. Fed the rope through a 6" length of vinyl tube (3/8" ID I think). Marked an appropriate length to feed into #1 with a squirt of international orange spray paint on the rope.

    For the fun of Volvos,
    Mike

Use the rope trick, easy, cheap and effective. See the FAQ for details.

I found a 1/2" impact gun the simplest way & they are so handy all those nasty rusted pieces.

and i can speak categorically it will not work.
it is a very useful tool but not for the torque required to loosen or tighten the crank bolt.

I can't see how it would work either. I say get the tool for $45 but I have 5 240's and a few friends 240's so mine gets a workout.
For a one or two time use the rope trick may be the way to go for you.

I can't see how that would hold the pulley when applying 100+ ftlbs to the crank bolt. Not sure how it would connect to it either.
