b16 braided fuel line 444-544

I just replaced the braided fuel line (between the 2 carbs) on my b16 with plain old fuel line and it just doesn't look right. Where you can get a fuel line that has metal braiding over it similiar to what was on my setup?

Thanks, Stu

I pulled the old (stock) cracked line out of the woven metal covering, cleaned up the covering and installed a smaller, modern fuel line into it. The new interior line I used is for FI motorcycles so it is plenty strong for the 3PSI or so that it has to handle.
I then used a couple of pieces (~3/4" long) of brass tubing that was a tight fit over the ends of the woven covering, rolled the outside ends and crimped the inside ends to hold it on.
Not a very close up photo, but you can see what one end looks like.

That looks great. I'll have to give that a try.

How did you clamp the tubing onto the banjo fittings? - Stu

I used a tool I made to clamp the clear hoses on old British motorcycles to the petcock and carbs with the nickel plated brass fittings they used on the older bikes.
I don't have a photo of the tool handy but it is just a steel square, with the right size hole in it, split in half (to make 2 "U" shapes) with threads on one side for two bolts, and clearance on the other. You clamp it on the fitting and tighten it up.
It helps to countersink the hole that clamps the fitting on both sides.
I think you could do about the same thing with the right size (Cable type) U bolt clamp. It really does not take much to get a seal if you get the right ID hose, there should not be much pressure in these lines.

Cheers!
