Removing pedal shaft 1960 PV? 444-544

Hey guys, i've managed to find the snap rings under the grease that allows me to remove the pedals themselves, but I was wondering if anyone knew how to pull the actual shaft that they all pivot around, off. I'm mocking up my new frame rail/rear of the lower control arm mounts (3x1" 11ga hot rolled box x 7' per side)

and i need to notch out a section of the frame spars to install this 1/8" plate box i'm building up, but this pedal mounting tube is definitely in the way.

Any tips/tricks?

and here is about 1/2 of the box for the drivers side rail. the angled section is where the plate with the captive nut for the subframe sits. the frame rail gets welded into the little notch on the plate behind the angle.

Several years ago I rebuilt a 544 and getting the cross shaft out was a major pain. It was rusted in tight.with heat and a puller I made up it finally can out.the big hammer did help.

They knock out sideways, If you do remove it you'll wreck it. New ones are available.

So just a BFH then? Any idea which way it goes? to the tranny tunnel or to the rocker panel side of things?

I'm not worried about it going back in, it'll be getting something custom anyways. I just need it out of the way to remove the stock frame rail and then cut out the floors.

Yup, once you've removed the 2 circlips and slid the pedals off it you simply knock it out. It is removed by knocking it outwards.

It doesn't always knock out simply though.

Mine was bent and a bear to get out. It wasn't rusted. Took a lot of twisting and pulling / pushing, but it finally came out.

Ah, if it gets bad i'll just hit it with the gas-axe. it's not going back in remotely anyways. i just wanted to make it easier to cut things out.
