IDLE problem 900 1991

I have a problem with my 91 940 SE turbo, I cannot get it to idle right. Some background into what I have done already; I removed and cleaned the throttle body, replaced and adjusted (hopefully correct) the Throttle Positioning sensor, replaced the Idle Control valve (costly) checked all the vacuum lines, replaced the oil trap (because it needed it). Now, after all that this "thing" will idle between 950 and 1100 rpm with transmission in neutral but when put in drive it will only idle at 550 rpm or less (not good). What am I missing or not doing? Please HELP I'm going NUTS!!!!!!! The whole nine yards pertaining to a tune up was recently done also.

Are you sure you have the TPS set correctly? Check the FAQ for the proceedure. Easy to set once you know the correct method. Click should occur just as the throttle opens. If it doesn't click at all, symptoms you are describing can occur.

Who did the tune-up. You or someone else?
    Were they a pro?
Read the FAQ on Engine Tune & Performance, there is a section on high idle after TB cleaning.
Perhaps someone "adjusted" the idle by fiddling with the screw on the T.B.

Other possibilities, you missed a vacuum line hook-up somewhere when you checked them, sometimes, if they are old & hard or have lost their clamp, turbo pressure can blow one off its nipple creating a leak.

Is the IACV installed correctly? Are the wires solidly connected? All hose clamps tight?

Good luck. Let us know how you make out.

On my 940, I thought I was adjusting the TPS by listening to the click, but it turns out that the trans kick down cable was clicking when the throttle spool was turned. I could not hear the TPS click even with a stethoscope.
