240 owner wondering about the location of the crank sensor on 740 turbos? 700

I was looking for a crank sensor today in a yard that had just crushed a later 240 model this past week, so the part I was hoping to find wasn't there. But there where two 740 turbos. From what I've looked up on eeuroparts.com is that the 740 turbo's have the same part number as the 240. But when I looked on the top of the bell housing I couldn't find one. Are used or located somewhere else?

On my 1992 non-turbo 740 it's in the same place as a 240. Eeuroparts lists the same sensor for both turbo and non turbo for 1988 and up 740's. Maybe the 740's you looked at were pre 1988?

Cool, didn't even cross my mind. I'm not familiar with the 740's distributor and didn't know what too look for with an RPM sensor inside one.

Good point. Its been a long week and my brain just didn't calculate such a possibility. Thanks you for pointing that out.

you will not find this sensor on any b230 engine turbo or not BEFORE 89. on all so equipped engines the sensor is in the same place...top of the bellhousing.

engine timing is now controlled by the presence of this sensor.
