Intank pump replacement 200 1986

I decided to replace the intank fuel pump on the 86 245 today. As I looked into the very small hole that the designers gave me for access to the pump, I had to wonder what happened to the real Vikings, the fellows with the big hands made for slinging double edged super axes at the enemy? They must have been all killed off in battle leaving the little handed guys at home to procreate and design little access holes in their equipment.

The job went well after having a devil of a time coaxing the assembly up through a hole 2/3 the size of the pump/level sensor footprint. I'm not certain that I fixed the intermittent leaning out condition that is driving me nuts, but, after 250K miles, the pump needed changing anyway.

Regards,

The big handed Vikings got involved in later Volvo designs and took the access panel out all together! On the 850 and later vehicles you have to drop the whole tank to get to the sender/pump. Count yourself lucky :).

Modern society "selects"(confers advantage) based on criteria such as mental acuity, passivity and conformity. The days of the strongest, fastest, most aggressive, or largest humans having a natural advantage are long gone. The most intelligent, compliant, conformists are far more likely to have the financial wherewithal to not end up in jail, and have large broods, therefore better odds of passing thier genetic material to the next generation. Though we Americans attempt to counter naures plans via the welfare state. My 2cents.

I vote that we go back to the days of hanging our enemie's heads on our horse's bridals! (My family tree had Celtic warriors on one side and Chippewa indians on the other so I am severely disadvantaged when it comes conforming to "pencil neck" standards):>)

Indeed, it's cozy enough in there that you have to go outside to change your mind. Hopefully, you changed out the gasket as well as all the rest of the goodies while you were in there. Good.

...and if you don't go outside, the fumes will alter your mind for you.

Art that is a great document! While I hope that I do not have to go into the tank again, I have saved it in my favorites; just in case.

Thanks,
