VADIS question 700

Rooting around the subforums here, I learned about a DVD associated with Volvo's VADIS diagnostic system, so I went looking for this. I was not interested in the multi-thousand dollar VADIS system itself, just the illustrated parts lists.

I saw several references on eBay, ranging from a 2-DVD set for $17 all the way up into the thousands of dollars, but they were all for later models than my 1992. However, I did manage to download a DVD covering 1975-2005 from thepiratebay.org.

After burning the DVD, I tried installing it (Windows XP SP3) with no success and a load of error messages. I finally discovered a file called Vadis_set_up_instructions.rtf on the disc which gives specific instructions and saw where I went wrong. However it also said to scan the disc for viruses, which is what I did. AVG found a Trojan called vocsstart.exe and researching that I learned it was probably something that tries to communicate with an "online ford database of some kind", which is probably no big deal. I figure if I go ahead and install this software as instructed and then run AVG, it will remove or disable the offending file.

Anyway, my question is, have any of you installed this particular utility, does it work (as far as being able to look up parts and diagrams, anyway) and are there any caveats?

VADIS question 700

I have the same version I use it to look up stuff for 91 740. I burned to DVD and ran the setup batch file and it installed fine. I didn't do anything special like setting the date back. I'm running the pre release version of win 7 and it works fine, just have to run as an administrator.
the first time you login use:
User: sysadm
Password: NQZ5-XC3E-P8HD-A2SU
make a new user and be sure to select all information types. i failed to do this and wasn't able to look up any parts.
In my opinion its a great program and worth the effort to get it working if your just using for yourself. If your a shop probably need to buy it to get the most out of it. Hope this helps if not check the piratesbay.com some of the comments on this torrent address installation issues.

VADIS question 700

The version I have is from 2002. Everytime I want to use it I have to set my PC date back to 2002 or it will say it has expired.

Pretty much all the parts information is there. The newer models have more diagnotsic/service ionformation available in VADIS. If you look at some newer 940 models, though, you may find service information that is the same for 740s but not listed in the 740 section.

It is a very valuable tool. I often use to look up part numbers and order directly from Tasca Volvo. Seeing how everything fits together is very helpful.
