Longer wheel studs 200 1991

I have a 240 with really nice wheels that are 15" alloys. We have spacers (approx 5/16" thick) on each to accomodate extra width and now need longer studs. Anybody know where to get them? Thank you.

Try your favorite tire shop and they sell special wheels.

Plus, they stock extras. Because they have more chances to twist them off all the time!

Check your local auto parts house. The 240 uses a 1/2 X 20 stud that is pretty common. You should be able to source the studs that you need fairly easily.

      Dale,
Thanks for the info. Don't know if I'll spring for those beauties but am certainly glad to know where to go if I can!

The stud thread is common. The problem is that the knurled shoulder is not. There's a guy in Australia named Triangle Sun Limited that carries them. I was not able to find him this morning though. I'm checking further. Check with http://www.avalancheperformance.com/ too, I think they can provide them.

Avalanche doesn't carry them but the link I posted is for the company you're thinking of. It's "Triangles Unlimited" and they're in the DC area, not Australia.

ARP makes a stud that is marginally compatible but they require welding as the spline does not provide a sufficient interference fit. I've used the ARP stud numerous times and have had no issues. The trick is, with the hub off the vehicle, push them in from the back and attach the hub to a wheel with wheel nuts. You can't torque them down much but you can firmly attach the wheel to the hub. This will center the lugs in their holes allowing one to spot a couple of welds on each stud.

They are ARP part number 100-7703...

Hey Dale. Yep, I may have the name confused, but definitely a company in Australia. I found some e-mail I exchanged with the guy on the studs and the address ends in .au

I contacted Anthony Hyde to inquire. I recall the studs as being silver. We'll see if he can direct me to the guy that was making them. Those Kaplhenke studs are beautiful, but pricey!

Fair enough Dave. I'm not familiar with anyone in Australia who makes them but that doesn't mean they don't exist...

Okay, I am here to admit stupidity, failing memory, defeat, some such thing. Anthony down under says the longer studs are available from the dealers. I think he's referring to the longer studs that were supplied when the dealers put 1/4" spacers behind Virgos. Those are long gone. An hour on the web tonight turned up absolutely nothing. Maybe Trianglesunlimited is what I'm remembering, but the site sure doesn't look familiar. Did they rework it in the last year or so? I tried to reach my guy at the .au e-mail address, but it bounced back as invalid. Sigh, so many bookmarks, so many broken links. Web overload for sure.

Looks like Kaplhenke may be the only source. A couple of years ago I tracked down a part number in the Dorman line for a stud 1 1/16 long with splines that would fit, but I checked this afternoon, it's been discontinued.

Yar...maybe Fred at wheeladaptor.com can help!

The original Volvo longer wheel studs (part 8360085) were available from SAM in Sweden a few years ago and are still listed in their catalog. Unfortunately the exchange rate plus shipping plus the annoyances of a wire transfer make the Kaplhenke option much easier. I've purchased from both companies and been very happy with both.

I have the original Volvo 20mm per side spacerkit on the rear of my 242.

If you're willing to go with wider adapter style spacers you may have more options.
