No crank when hot 200 1993

Starts up right away when cold. After 40 minutes on the highway when I turned the starter switch there was no crank for about 2 seconds, then it cranked.
After driving back home, another 40 minutes, I tried to restart the car - no crank. Could hear the relay and the fuel pump. Waited 15 minutes and she started right up. This is a reoccuring problem. I have sprayed CRC cleaner in the ingnition switch and worked the switch, but that didn't seem to help.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
JP

I've heard of this before on other cars over the years.

Believe it or not it turned out to be a battery on the fritz!

Bad cell or the plates inside were loose. Heat related from charging a bad cell.

Make sure your cables are in good condition. You got to keep them tidy.

This was just an idea to throw about. If you have spare switch them around.

If the starter was on the exhaust side like some Chevy's then I'd say that too could be a reason. Big Chevy motors cooked them like they were on a grill at a barbecue.

To correctly diagnose problem I suggest start by testing to see if 12V appears at the start solonoid when key is turned to start position. This is the small connection at the starter. Do this when the no crank condition occurs. You will need a helper unless you use long leads. The results of that measurement determines what to look at next. Use meter or test light.
Post back result.
If you were spraying into the key opening I doubt that would fix anything and can mess up the mechanical locking portion of the switch.
