Resetting Check Engine Light 200 1993

Happy Thanksgiving everyone...

How can I easily reset the check engine light on my '93 240 wagon? I believe I have fixed a vacuum leak in the system and the car runs fine now. The light won't turn off.

If you have the radio codes, just disconnect the negative battery terminal for 5 minutes, then reconnect.

Or lift fuse #6* for a second instead, and save your radio presets. This will not only clear the codes but reset the computer's adaptive trim.

*On late production 93's, with PAL fuses at the battery terminal, the 40A (pink) fuse must be lifted. No need to wait 5 minutes, the reset occurs immediately.

THAT'S IT! This method (removing fuse #6) worked perfectly. The other method of holding down the button for 5 seconds to reset did not work with my particular vehicle. The red light would not stay on...

turn the key to the on(II) position. insert the probe in socket #2 in the OBD test port, hold the button down for 5 seconds the light will come on and stay on. hold the button for 5 more seconds and the light will go out. Then press the button for 1 second and you should get a 1-1-1 code meaning the codes are cleared and the CE light should be off.

But the proper method doesn't always work. Disconnecting the battery, or Art's tip with Fuse 6 even better, works every time.
