Anybody have experience with overdrive not kicking in until 15 minutes on the highway? If I keep the car running, even idling, when I go back on the highway, I still have overdrive. If I stop the car, even for a short time, the car will not shift into overdrive for about 10 to 15 minutes of highway driving.

Yes, that can happen. Can you explain what the OD light is doing, can you shift out of OD and back in while moving? Have you ever flushed tranny?

The overdrive light goes on when I press the button on the shifter and off again when I press it again. The overdrive will sometimes engage after about 15 minutes on the highway. I haven't had the car that long so I haven't flushed the tranny. The transmission fluid level is fine and the fluid seems okay as well (no burnt smell, at least).

since the arrow goes on and off on command this presumes you od relay and shift switch are working properly.

1. flush thoroughly your transmission
2. check the integrity of the wiring go to the solenoid on the transmission

re drive the car and see if any improvemnt takes place

if so you're done

if not swap in a known good od relay just in case.

OR jumper the slots where the relay pins #15 and 87 plug into. 15 is hot and 87 provides od so by jumpering these two you are telling the transmission od is on all the time.

if not the likely problem is the solenoid is faulty.

I agree, most likely suspect is the relay (light off and on does not necessarily mean it is good). It is easy to swap or resolder as described in the FAQ section.

I like the idea of jumpering 12V direcly to the solonoid as test.

Flushing should be done regardless.
