92 240 trunk lid leaking/ also moldy drain tubes 200

Have discovered trunk lid leaks along forward edge. At first thought it happened because parked facing downhill so that water could back up in channel on trunk lid perimeter, but it also seemed to occur when parked on flats. When did a "dollar bill test" to see if gasket tight it seemed fairly firm, but not sure if tight enough--if bulb gasket getting compressed enough. Also noticed underneath of forward edge of trunk lid was moldy. Is organic growth enough to prevent a solid seal? There are adjustments for lowering lid, as well as fore/aft adjustment. Before I start adjusting things, has anyone experienced this, and found solution?

Also, the two @1" clear vinyl drain tubes look very moldy on the inside, which might enable mold spores to spread nupward into the drain channel. Tubes fits very tightly over metal nipples so concerned about breaking if pry off. What is best way to clean these: vinegar or bleach (or something else) solution fed from drain tube bottom; plug bottom and feed drain channel from above; cut off tubes just below nipples (looks like enough extra tube to reinstall after cutting off nipple piece)?

Thanks.

My trunk leak turned out to be a missing side molding clip. Water can flow up under the molding in a surprisingly large quantity.

Before you tear out too much hair trying to find how water can climb the lip or go under the gasket, be sure the leak isn't for the most common reason a Volvo 240 sedan's trunk gets water in it: cracked lenses or lens welds on or inside the tail lights.

I've seen green drain tubes, but only concerned myself with their being open to flow, and not killing any spores. Can't help there from experience.

A week ago I didn't know the source, but leak is without question along the front of trunk lid. Trunk had been emptied, cleaned, dried, etc. and only the insulation pad was back in when it again rained. Very obvious water collection directly underneath front of lid. But still not sure why.

What you find wet is more a function of how level the car is than where the water is entering. Quite a volume of rain can skitter across metal surfaces inside the trunk leaving invisible traces a minute later. A hose, some talcum powder or tissue paper, and patience will help you pinpoint it. In one instance I learned that it doesn't take many ruined college textbooks to put the price of new tail lights in perspective.

I generally agree. However, in this instance it was overnight, after having been dried thoroughly, with just the insulating pad reinstalled. Upon opening the trunk there was a very wet front edge, with the rest of the pad dry. Definitely not travelling under pad.
