Tire question 200

I've got a 88 245, with the sunburst alloy wheels and have a friend with 195 70 r 14 tires, and am wondering whether these might work on the car. I did a general search of the board, but figure a direct question might lead to more specific answers,
Thanks in advance.

Tire question 200

Thanks for the quick and anecdotal responses to the question. Had one of the few non dealer Euro-car repair shop do my pinion seal and was chatting with another customer, an older (car and driver) mercedes owner, who said that he has some michelins called and told me the size and figured that the resources here might give me the straight skinny.
And if they are a good tire, 90 for the set may be a go.
Now to see if I can find something that deciphers the Michelin date codes to know how old they are.

I don't trust tires that are much older than 5 years anymore especially in a hot climate.

"Sunburst" wheels - do you mean Coronas? Look here: http://home.blarg.net/~volvo242gt/wheels.html

195/70-14 will fit just fine, and usually the load rating is the same as the OEM 185R-14.

Me too. Just put a set of Yoko Avid Touring S in that size on the Coronas on Mrs. B's wagon.

Good tire. I ran a few sets of those on the '88 and '91 back in CT... decent handling and feedback, and good wear by my standards (40K+).
