testing a rear window defrost function 700

is there a way to put a multi-meter on this to test for current? what current indicates that it is functioning?

my defrost sometimes functions and at other times, doe not. I'm a bit stymied by this except that I suspect the window tinting in some of the problems.

You can use a multimeter but a 12 V test light will do. In the lower right hand corner there should be a connector. Find a ground and test for voltage there. It's a 12V circuit but less is OK If you have it there you can further test the individual "lines" by gently touching the lines (they're actually delicate wires and you can damage them if you are too forceful. A good line will show some voltage or the test light will stay lit as you move across the lines. Do all the lines and note any that do not stay lit all the way across. There are repair kits available to reconnect the gaps in continuity along the "lines".

The intermittent nature of your problem suggests a loose connection so I would pay close attention to the connector. When the tint was installed the connection may have been disturbed.
