Dumb, dumb, dumb 700

Every now and then I do some really dumb things but I have to confess to out doing myself in that department today. I had some wiring left on a project control panel that is going in the 88 765 so I tackled the completion this morning. The job went so smoothly that I decided to test my handy work, forgetting about the set of heavy duty jumper cables that I had left on top of the motor two days ago.

Fortunately, the cables only tore off one of the fan blades and busted the alternator belt when they wrapped around the crank pulley. The power steering belt did not break when it rolled off to the engine side of the pulley, but probably should be replaced anyway.

I can't remember having this sort of thing happen twenty years ago, but I couldn't remember the jumper cables either.

Regards,

Been there way to many time's, turning the key only to hear a very unusall noise come from the engine bay, then to find i left something alittle to close or just flat out disconnected. Ah well at least it didnt do any serious damage!

We may forget our experiences but we acquire wisdom. I now know to check around very carefully and then a final check to make sure I have glasses on my nose, then put away a few tools and finally a final final check.

Wisdom also tells us its OK to man up and admit our foibles.

I find myself getting worse about such things, having passed the threescore and ten.

"...but in all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy path."

Thanks for reminding me of my dad, George. :-)

The older he got the smarter, kinder, more human he seemed.
Funny, isn't it? ;-)

Best wishes!

Gregg,
You get a "A" for last Wednesday's lesson - too bad you waited till Sunday to turn it in!
To quote Mark Twain, "I was surprised how much the old man had learned while I was gone."
Mine died a couple years before I retired and came home in 98. I miss him.
I am really looking forward to getting back together again.

Hi George!

I am hopeful that by the very short time I have to three score ten, I will have at least one son-in-law that can pull a wrench! So far they are pretty useless!

I call it anxious, anxious, anxious.
Sometimes when we are working on a project we
lose all clear thought and do something without
thinking ahead of time. I have made it a habit
of looking once, twice and sometimes three times
before I flick the switch or turn the key.
Not that I ever made tools fly into the sky or
burnt a fuse or two.

Don't be so hard on yourself, we have all been there.

Joseph

I enjoy my screwups. There's no better way to learn, if you can keep them from killing you. I had worked in the street where my MIL's 940 crank pulley had come apart, throwing belts all over. Eager to finish, I started it up with #1 plug still dangling from its wire, having used a piece of rope in there to hold the motor still while tightening the pulley's bolt. What wonderful music that open hole made!
