Small clock's not working question 200

I seem to remember reading somewhere that when these small clocks stop working that the problem is probably a bad capacitor that you can get at Radio Shack. The problem is how do you open up one of these? I tried taking the 2 screws off of the back but I can't get any of the housing loose. What gives? Thanks, Charles

Try this for some pictures of a similar clock.

You have to either take off the bezel, probably mangling the bezel in the process, or cut the clock open around the perimeter of the metal case. It's easy to do. I repaired three last fall, and it was a fun project. There are two capacitors in there that you de-solder, remove, and replace. Art Benstein has some good pictures of the process. Check cleanflametrap.com. I'll look for a recent post about it and let you know if I can find it.

you can also swap in a large clock gut instead of replacing the capacitor.
