444 no spark? 444-544 1956

Hi all,
Yesterday I pulled one wire out and held it close to the tip of the plug, and cranked it. I saw no spark, maybe I'm doing it wrong? (I saw a spark when I did it to my 67 122).

Haven't tested the coil, don't have a volt-meter, and didn't check compression (the Advance didn't rent them out.)

I'd love to hear all opinions! Thanks guys. I'm really looking forward to getting the car on the road!

new coil question 444-544 1956

I bought a new coil, and it is a bit different than the older coil.
Sounds stupid, but how do I hook it up? I know how to put the wire on, but what do I put on the top of the coil where it says + and -?
I think the condenser wire goes on one side, but what about the other? My original only has one screw like thing. Not 2 like this one.
(not the coil exactly, looks similar.)

One thing you can do is pull the distributor cap and have someone turn the engine over while you check to see if there is spark at the points. The problem could be bad points or maybe they need to be cleaned and adjusted . Larry

Without a partner you can, with the ignition on, just flick the points open with a screwdriver. There should be a very small spark. If there is a "large" splashy spark, it usually means that the condenser is bad. If you get the small spark, carefully check the low tension wire from the dizzy to the coil for continuity.'fraid it's one step at a time when this happens.
