Battery hold down bracket 700 1990

I had to replace the battery in my 1990 740, but I can't figure out how the hold down bracket is supposed to work. Haynes and Chilton are both vague, and I didn't see anything in the 700/900 FAQ or anywhere else on Brickboard.

Thanks for any help.

Joe

If like mine. Battery has notch in the base. Metal bracket sits on the plate and goes into notch. Long threaded rod with nut on it and eye on the other. Screw the rod through the metal plate into the base until tight.

Battery hold down bracket 700 1990

I can see where the rod screws into the chassis in the engine compartment, but I'm still a bit clueless about how to attach the bracket to the battery.

I've looked at mine, and the bracket is sort of a distorted "S" shape. I had trouble locating the notch in the base of the battery. Are there any diagrams online that show this in detail?

Thanks.

If you didn't get a battery for your specific car. It may not have the notch. Part of the bracket rests on the chasis, the other part goes into the notch. The inner part of the bracket(angle) faces downward. It doesn't "attach" to the battery, just rests in the notch.
