The cooling fan which is attached to the water pump runs all of time. The A/C switch is off and fan switch is off and it still run when the car is stated cold or hot. Is this correct and if not what do I check.

Frank, it will run all of the time, yes, but it has a clutch system which, when it heats up, makes the fan spin more. They can seize though. I can't remember what the test is to determine if the clutch has seized.

Thought they might have eliminated the clutch system that is( attached to the water pump). and replaced it with the elctric set-up like on my 92 740 t.
The simple test for the clutch is when it is cold should spin very easily when pushed by hand, when it gets warmer air coming across it the clutch becomes tighter and will take more push form your hand to turn it you should also hear the woooosh of the fan when you rev it up. That is the simple test to see if its working

I am fairly certain that it is standard operating procedure that the fan is running when the engine is on, otherwise you would have problems.

If you have the pusher and the puller fan on that yr? They are electronically controlled and should not be running all the time!!!

It is not the fan in front of the radiator, it is the one behind the radiator that run all of the time.

Its electric? not hooked up to the water pump? electric fans DO not run all the time only wen called for.
