torque lift? 120-130 1966

Starting from a stop I sometimes get something happening just as the car begins to move forward. It's like something is lifting up one rear corner of the car and then setting it down again. Or like a speed bump under one tire. It happens when I am on a hill or when the engine is cold and I am giving it lots of gas.

I have looked for broken things back there, and all looks well as far as I can tell. Except both shock straps are broken and hanging. Previous owner put in some new bushings on the arms that go forward from the rear hubs.

I have some loose rubber bushings on the propeller shaft bearing holder. Engine mounts look okay...I haven't tried lifting the engine to see if they are intact, but they don't look broken.

Any ideas?

Rick;

I agree with Cameron...check your rear susp bushings...limiting straps cannot cause that...they only limit axle travel on rebound...so if you avoid the killer potholes and never go airborne, you would never know they're missing...

Good Hunting!

Adding bad Panhard rod bushes or 1 completely shot shock absorber.

Hmmmm... I doubt it. Shocks aren't load bearing components, and a failed shock will simply fail to dampen the movement of the spring. The panhard rod's job is to keep the body (relatively) centered over the rear axle and doesn't (shouldn't) play a role in preventing the axle housing from rotating.

Sounds very much like you have bad torque rod bushings.

Thanks for the help.

I see ipd has a set of 122s rear bushings (14 pieces) for about 50 bucks. I guess I will start there.

Maybe I will put in springs while I am at it because the car rides real low in back. I can feel every pebble in the road, and the front has new springs but the back ones are old.

The headlights aim at treetops.
