Hey Everyone,

I was wondering if there is a safe way to clean the fabric of old seatbelts and sun visors on our old PV444s? I don't want the seat belt to shrink, and the fabric on my sun visors seems pretty fragile. Any ideas?

For the belts, on my 444 project (544 belts) I tried brushing with detergent, etc. It helped, but not enough. After corresponding with Peter here (PEEBEE, I think) I sent them through the dishwasher. That helped some more. Good enough to use until I come up with a way to replace strapping.

I just washed my seat belts in hot soapy water then rinsed them and hung them up to dry and they looked great.

As to the visors, mine (544) were vinyl and I just used hot water and Simple Green and a nylon brush and they cleaned up nicely. Are the visors on a 444 made of some other material?

I have run quite a few sets of Volvo seat belts through the washing machine. The belts are nylon strap so they will not shrink. Just put the belts in an old pillow case (to protect the drum of your washing machine) and tie the pillow case off. Wash with a bunch of other laundry and you are fine...

Yes, the visors on a 444 are split in the middle, half being vinyl and half a soft fabric, maybe mohair?
