Hi guys, I hope someone can help me with reconnecting the handbrake cable that has been disconnected from the lever.How can I remove the center console/panel to gain access to the cable w/out breaking anything. Thanks again for your help everyone.

I'm in the process of doing this job now and have pulled it off 3 times in the past month.

2 screws in tray beneath hand brake lever....2 screw hidden under pop out flap in the arm rest stuff holder towards rear of compartment.

Remove ash tray and other piece to expose fuse area should be small clip holding on tray.

Pull tray part up and out over stick preatty easily.

get rest of arm rest console out by pulling back a little after removal of tray area. then up and over the stick ebrake lever.

Might have to remove rear ash tray and middle piece with light in it.

be careful ....don't get carried away the plastic is pretty rugged but will snap.

Once you are inside, if the cable is broken and the anchor is no longer available, you can improvise with a substitute anchor left over from, say, a bicycle brake repair, and mate the new achor bight to the extant park brake cable with a couple of small u-bolts. But you have to get the u-bolts on very tightly. This saves buying and installing a whole new parking brake cable. Watch your fingers and wear protective glasses when doing this job, the cable can slap around, a u-bolt could break open and fly up, while you are working.

There should be something in the FAQ's on the console, but a couple quick places to disconnect would be;

Pull the plastic 'L' shaped bit out from around the handbrake
Remove the two screws beside the shifter
There are screws in the 'bottom' of the console, under small fuzzy plastic covers
The other screws are fairly visible from what I recall (i.e. at sides at front, and possibly inside ashtray from backseat)

If you get stuck I can look more closely at mine. It has been out a few times!
