Any one using Michelin X radials on their 245? 200 1988

Anyone have experience with Michelin X radials in the P195-75-14 size on their 245 wagon? I guess the X series is an older design because I have seen them around forever. Costco has them on a $70 off coupon promo, a set of 4 will cost $310 mounted/new valve stems/balanced. My car is stock and driven conservatively. I was considering the Kuhmo R21 but they actually cost more and I have always had good experience with Michelin, especially their ability to hold air and not leak down. My wagon is a GL with the 25 spoke aluminum wheels. Other tire suggestions?

Going to differ from everyone else on this. This was on a 244 but I doubt it would make much of a difference.

I had them, and was very unimpressed.
They were down to the wear bars in 20k miles, wore crooked and chunks started coming off the edges, and no there was no problem with the car. Even Costco said it was the tires but wouldn't do anything about them. I don't drive like a nut either, this was standard driving around town.

I'll never buy a Michelin again, they're like Sony, you pay a fortune for something that is of average quality just because of the name. But this is just my experience with them. I have Uniroyal Tiger Paw whitewalls on it now and they are excellent.

I only vote for Michelin and Toyo. Toyo is easier to spell and to me are just as good.

I bought Toyo the last time because the Goodyear and Michelin dealer are the same in my small town. He is so so on prices but has a reputation of bad service in other areas.

Good Years are rags about half way through their life. They get noisy and lose more air than the other two. I like their V-belts though. Their quieter longer, IMHO.

Hard to find like my good woman was. Even though it's not so good when she gets to quiet!

Costco has gotten persnickety about following the application book. Sometimes its wrong and they show less common sense than their training.

It's still a good place to get tires. Because they are in business to stay in business. They have tighten their rules to protect themselves.

I use 205, 195 and 185 R70's on my wagon and sedans. It don't matter. I move the best tires sets around onto the best car for the longest trips. Older thinner tires more for sitting and in town use.

I think the speedometer is more accurate with the recommended R70 size profile. Never got up to a R75 yet. Width may me a problem.

It rains most of the year here. I like the some grippers out there. Width over height. A compromise. Anything shorter effects gas and wear mileage too.

I like the ride over handling. If you have to jam your brakes on going into a curve. You are probably driving to fast for what you can't see around the bend anyway!

I live where there are falling rocks! It Swerves your thinking! Height is a good thing for the oil pans too!

These kids with the new low profile tires. Remind me of my solid rubber tires on my metal tractor, I pedaled around. Now, that's stepping back into the dark ages. Trust Me!

    Regards

    Phil

Michelin are the way to go. If your wheels are true it will take very little weight to balance them. Had the same wheel/tire combo on my 87 GL. Now have the Michelin Hydro Edge mounted on Virgo's that I like even better. Greg

I've had them on other cars and they are excellent tires IMO. Costco might give you a hard time about installing them on a 245 because they are not precisely the same size as what the car came with from the factory. Of course the original size 185/80-14 is NLA and the 195/75-14 is an excellent fitment for a 245.

The "Michelin X" tire is one Michelin only sells through warehouse clubs like Costco. It is actually a modern tire with an old name :). It is a far superior tire to the Kumho KR21 in my view. Unfortunately, 195/75-14 tire selection is getting very thin these days. I have Yokohama Avids on our 245 in this size which I like very well, but Yokohama doesn't make them anymore. Of the few which are still made, the Michelin X would be my first choice for sure.

Stick with Michelin X-radials. They're the best.

I'll put in a third vote for the Michelins. Can't go too far wrong, especially with that promo.

Ditto for the Michelin X radials, I've been buying them from Sams for years.
I have 195/75 R14 on one brick and P185/75 R14's on the other, mainly due to what was in stock when I needed tires. Sometimes they won't sell tires that are a differnt size than what's on the wheels at the other end.
