Rehabbed 244 200 1992

Before time ebbed, I wanted to post that rehabbing my daughter's '92 244 (210K miles) was a success and largely due to the credit of help received from this forum. Take a bow, bricksters! I had bought this car nine years ago and eventually passed title to a daughter. She and her husband felt it didn't fit their needs anymore (and didn't want to make the accumulation of maintenance repairs) and wanted to give it up. Coincidently, my son calls and says he needs a daily driver since his truck engine seized. Let Dad fix you up for your birthday gift! Last week, two months later (missed the birthday by a month), I get the car to him in Savannah. Car covers 400 miles at 27mpg with windows down (some things just didn't get fixed like a/c. A/C is over-rated.).

Lot's got fixed, big and small. Strut inserts and other front end maintenance, rear shocks, timing belt and tensioner, fluid flushing, drive belts, hoses, etc. My fondest memories remain with the rope trick BB discussion (I'll do rope trick again on my '92 245), SRS dash light bugaboo (don't trust the diagnosis of certified Volvo mechanics, trust the BB) and the hot BB discussion about nitrogen filled tires.

I kept working on it right up to the eve of my drive to Savannah. New engine mounts were the plan that day. That plan went awry when I crossthreaded a stud on the new right side mount. Fortunately, a neighbor had a good used one that sometime ago came by way of JORRELL!

So, another 240 is able to live on, perhaps to 300K miles.

For the fun of Volvos.
Mike
