Passenger Side Rear Parking Lamp 200 1992

Hi All,

I have a 1992 245 and have noticed that the rear fog lamp on the passenger side is not working. This is the top most bulb on the tail lamp on the back passenger side. I have checked the fuse and replaced it anyway. I have replaced the bulb with a new one. The bulb out indicator light is not coming on. No light at all.

Any guesses on what else I can check out to make the fix?

Thanks,

13

The Foglamps are not tied into the Bulb Failure sensor so if you want to snake a wire from Drivers side to Passenger side, it would be that easy to set up the Passenger side for fogs.

Did it use to work?

On later cars. After 2002 plus somewhere. I noticed that they only want the drivers side to work. No matter which country. Only the drivers side. New laws. Even though Volvo came out with the idea first I think.

Make sure you don't have the sockets holders swaped around. They are color coded.

You're right Phil. I think it was much earlier when Volvo dropped the passenger side fog lamp, like 91. Conforms with safety practice.

(if you have a Bentley manual, you can see this in the 91 wiring diagram)

OK Guys I'm not getting this.

If Volvo intentionally dropped the Rear Passenger Side Parking / Fog Lamp, then how come there's a bulb in the lense? I've got a 1992 if that makes any difference.

I guess I might power the bulb off from the Driver's side and run it under the cargo hatch area on the wagon.

Sure, go ahead.

I don't really "get it" that well either - especially why this business of having fog lights in the rear is so strictly a European thing. But the reason they agreed on one only, on the driver's side, is supposed to be to eliminate the miscue you could be giving other drivers, that you are braking, or at the least, riding the brake pedal.

On a very long dark and rainy night, following the interstates through Ohio and PA, we noticed all the single, left-side fog lights belonged to Mercedes, BMW, Audi. But your point on the bulb in the lens, well, you can bet if that was a GM product, some guy on the line would have been given a profit-sharing award for suggesting that 10 cents per unit be saved.
