coolant leak, pressure tested no leaks! no coolant in engine 700 1989

Hello, my 89 760 turbo wagon has a coolant leak. I replaced the water pump and an hour later my wife drove it, parked for an hour and pulled out of the parking spot to see a puddle of coolant. by the time she got home the res was empty. I had the system pressure tested and found no leaks. I thought it might be a head gasket but found no coolant in the oil. When the car is running(under pressure)i see no leaks. I park it over night, no fluid in the morning. i drive 6 miles in light traffic and i am back to min line on the res. even heat across the radiator(no blocks) hoses heat up, it's not overheating so i ruled out thermostat. any ideas?

Tim

I had a similar situation with my 1988 740 Turbo after I replaced the water pump. Turns out the rubber hose that goes onto the pump either wasn't on far enough or had worked its way back off partially. Never leaked while I watched it running, but after sitting overnight the reservoir would be low. I pushed the hose on as far as it would go and tightened the clamp really tight and that fixed it.

Just went through that sort of problem w/ my '88. Turned out to be a cracked resevoir. But since the water pump was just replaced that's the place to look at first.

Check the heater water valve, the heater hoses, and any plumbing on the back of the engine. Try cleaning the engine off with citrus cleaner and a hose, then dusting with talc any suspect areas which should show up coolant leaks.

I put a water pump on not to long back. I had a problem with that one oring at the bottom. It had gone in the fixture wrong. I had to pull the pump off and lube it up. Once I developed a pinhole in the upper radiator hose to. It took me awhile to find that puppy. When your car is hot squeeze the radiator hoses to see if anything presses out. Good luck.

I also had a mystery leak and it turned out to be a crack beneath upper hose attachment to the radiator. The plastic got old and it was hard to see as the hose itslf hid the leaking area. However the leak rate was not as fast as yours
