More dumb Trani questions M47 M46 200

If I go to a junkie to look for a Dead trani to Open up and play with... What are the immediate physical differences between the M46 and M47?

I thought the Backup light switch was on opposite sides..

Another question... Can I drop the Trani with the Shifter in place? Will the Trani tilt down enough to get the shifter out of the Tunnel?
Is there some 'half turn' locking mechanism holding the Shifter down into it's Bracket?

The set screw for the pin on the shifter linkage can be a PITA to remove (ask me how I know). I would soak it in PB blaster first. For removal, it helps to hammer an allen key socket into the set screw to ensure you have enough contact to not strip it during removal. If you do strip it, things will really get fun.

Is it the M47 you are working on? I don't have any experience with one of those but if it is similiar to the M46 the shifter has to come off. Pull the retaining pins from the boot to expose the shifter base--the reverse lock out plate needs to be loosened/removed--snap ring comes out next from on top--go below and loosen the 3mm allen set screw securing the lower pivot pin--slide the pivot pin out (I don't recall if the pivot pin has "c" clips on each end--also - it helps roomwise to have the driveshaft out of the way for this part). Collect up the plastic spacer/bushings. Now go back top and pull the shifter out along with the seals and plastic bushings surrounding the pivot ball. Not the easiest shifter in the world to deal with. -- Dave

Thanks Dave, yes the M47.

I've never had to touch the Trani other than to adjust the Reverse Lockout..then readjust it back after I did the Bushings and Pins down below.
And Fluid changes

So there is a Snap Ring, OK. I thought I saw a Groove in a picture of the Shifter Bracket.

No 'C' clips on that Pin just the Set screw

Thanks

The sway bars... I rather wait until I can dig up the single thicker ones. Thanks for the offer
