Cruise control questions 900

Can someone tell me please if the standard transmission cars use the same vacuum release switch for the clutch pedal as the automatic cars use for the brake pedal? It would seem reasonable that the only thing needed to install a unit from an auto equipped car on a standard transmission car would be a second switch T'd into the vacuum line.

In the image below do I have all the bits needed to install the cruise control on a prewired (US market) car?

Thanks,

Randy

I see your electronic control unit has "up" arrows marked on it indicating the proper mounting orientation. Just wondering if it has an inertia switch in it to disable cruise in the event of an impact. Anyone know? IIRC, the ones I've seen in the PnP are mounted so the front/printed side faces the centre of the car. The old 240 systems (mechanical speedometers) had a separate inertia switch mounted on the firewall near the vacuum actuator.

Looks to me like you will need some more vacuum tubing. The line to the clutch/brake switches is a fairly large ID (see the little piece on your switch) so that vacuum can be dumped instantly when the pedal is touched.

By standard 240 type switch, I do mean the very one seen in your pic.

Agree with Mila, same, known to be true at least in cars where we see manual transmissions (US market 240, 740). Furthermore, many of the 9-series use the standard switch used on 240s. However, there are occasional exceptions where other switch types are seen. But I bet they all mount and operate the same.

Yes, same switch used as for the brake.
