Report: how I obtained wider wheels 444-544

Hello all--

I started out to post a few photos of my recent wheel replacement, and ended up with a blogtastic journey

http://onethingway.blogspot.com/2009/08/wide-is-now.html

Thanks to Pete, JohnMC and Sil, all of whom supplied useful information while I was pulling wheels, tires, and front suspension together. N

Cool! If you don't mind me asking, what did Stockton Wheel charge to build these wheels?

When I first inquired, 15x6 "Henrys" quoted at around $100 per wheel before shipping.

That seems reasonable. But do you mean anything by "when I first inquired"? Or was the final price about the same? ;-)

I think I'll be calling Henry soon.

So 3.75 backspacing fits? Color me surprised! I could swear there's just a *tiny* bit of clearance on my 3.3" backspacing wheels.

I even bought a set of fairly cheap 14X6 TT D's and tried them on, and they rubbed there (and rubbed the tie rod end, which is why they went right back out on eBay).

Maybe it's the thinner steel wheel? Could you fit a tire weight on the inner rim?

Who knows, maybe I checked clearance against the bent arm that I later replaced.

Surprises me, too - I have 3.25" backspacing on 15" widened steelies and MUST use 1/4" spacers up front.

I am super surprised myself...and believe me, the clearance to the ball joint casting is TIGHT. Like, millimeters. I was fully prepared to have to grind some clearance onto the steering and suspension.
It may be the shape of the particular rims Stockton's using? The steel is thinner than alloy for sure but these are chunky wheels, quite heavy and visibly thicker stock than the originals. N

PS 444-544

...for F's sake, will somebody kindly reiterate, for the billionth time, how I attach a photo to my post?!

Be glad to, when using photobucket or flickr as a photo hosting site it's the "HTML" code they provide for the pic that you need to cut and paste into the body of the message. Not the Image code or the URL, some forums do use those to post a pic but BB is the HTML code.

Your welcome
Chris

Attaching Pics 444-544

The technique I use is this:

(replace XXX with [full] location URL of pic you want to embed...this allows you to embed a pic into your posting from anywhere...to get the URL, right click while mousing over pic, then copy entire URL from Proprties, and paste into your post, replacing XXX)

Cheers

...I guess that didn't work so well...let try that again:

Here goes:

Nope.

It looks like my URL from Blogspot is too long and getting cut off...

The URL on your attempt seemed to be mixed in with some Brickboard URL:
