Horn turning on rear wipers 200

Hi all,
I have a 91 245 and pressing on the steering wheel is causing my rear wiper to turn on, one pass each time, with no sound coming from the horn.

Any thoughts on where to start?
My back up lights do not work either but I don't think they are related.

Thanks

DC

You've got a bad ground somewhere. But where it is, is anybody's guess.

The horn honks when a ground is applied though the horn button. There is a contact in the steering column that rides along a ring with ground on it to give a constant ground path. Hit the button, path to ground and you get the horn.

Something might be wrong with that ground, if you have an airbag and makes it hard to check.

I would start by checking the fuses. Then have you taken anything loose up in the dash? Look for a loose ground connection in that area would be my next point of interest.

Good Luck,

Paul
