Recommendations - Need to replace carpet and seats. 200

Hi Everyone. I recently purchased a 1983 242 DL. I need to replace the carpeting and seats (both front and rear). I was wondering if the board had any recommendations on a carpet vendor that they have had success with fit and texture of the carpet. I want to go with black carpet.

Any good ideas on replacements front seats from other makes/models?

I have to replace the back seat and need some help with it as well.

Thanks for looking and any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can get new original style molded nylon carpet in loop or cut pile from many aftermarket suppliers. Search for auto carpet.

Something to think about as far as different seats. Perhaps there is a suitable seat out there that would contain side air bags. There would be some research and work involved in such a modification but, IMHO, would be a valuable mod to develop.

The carpet sets in Volvos are extremely durable. If you can find a decent set at the pick and pull you will be surprised at how well they respond to cleaning.

I have had great success by using the power washer at the local self service car wash.

Evidently your interior is not blue (based on black carpet) but I have a near perfect passenger's seat (83 242/blue) I would sell whole ($hipping) or simply send the covers alone or with the foam.

Depending on your level of "restoration", for a daily driver I would go to a reputable auto upholstery shop for the carpet. If you take out the seats before you take it to them [leave passenger seat at home and take your 10mm socket w/you] and vacuum up the crud you get a better job and will save money. Be sure they price it w/you taking out the seats! Many shops go right over the old carpet so ask them how they do it. If they remove old carpet, you will need 'pad' or underlayment. Get specific and ask them what your options are.

Seats; Yours is a 2 door, right? I have no experience with these but my guess is you are limited because of the seat back release mechanism. I would purchase new grids and new foam and have it reupholstered. Chance of finding good used ones is so limited.

+1 on a reputable auto upholstery shop. On another car I had the headliner and seats re-done. Better than new. Depends how long you intend to keep it and how nice you want it.

+2 for a reputable upholstery shop. They'll be able to fix you up and get the job done instead of you taking perhaps weeks to find an "okay" set of 25 year old seats in a place that eats interiors for a living.

VB,
I have an 83 244 DL and I was lucky to find both front and back
seats (leather) at my friendly pick and pay.
My prior seats were dry and cracked, now I have a tough time
allowing the boys to eat in the car.

Good luck,
Joseph
