Oxygen sensor difficulties 940T 900 1994

after researching FAQ and the AutoZone site, I bought the 15735 Bosch O-2 sensor and a 7/8" removal tool ($10 also at autozone) Problem is the installed sensor is larger than 7/8" (22mm)...it is somewhere around 25mm.. If I can somehow get this off, is it likely the new sensor will fit in the old sensor's threaded spot?.. The sensor on my 940 turbowagon is underneath the exhaust pipe in the engine compartment and is lacking room for a regular wrench...

I withdraw my question... the original sensor is, in fact 7/8" or 22mm...
the removal tool is shaped wrong and won't go over the body of the existing sensor.
