muffler input 444-544

It's time for new exhaust on my PV544. It has a B20 with the dual pipe.I have read all the threads about the subject. I have decided on 2.25 pipe with the muffler behind the axle. I am undecided as to what muffler to use. Any input based on personal experience?

2x QUALITY straight through mufflers, just like is found on 140's or in a Simons exhaust. Any sort of baffled turbo muffler tends to vibrate to bits when connected to a B18 or B20.

The exhaust has been installed. I went with 2 1/4 inch pipe and 1 Volvo muffler behind the axle. It is not much louder and the seat of the pants dyno can tell the difference. Thanks for all the input.

Here is a link to a photo of the muffler and tailpipe. I have photos of the full exhaust if any is interested. http://www.flickr.com/photos/blue65pv544/3896172248/

Don't do it up with just two glass pack bullet mufflers. My PV is a bit louder than an unmuffled harley. Fun in small doses, but not on any trip over 30 minutes.

I'm at the same point (444 w/ B20, 2 into 1 exhaust) and trying to decide about exhaust system. I don't want a loud set up.

If I want it quiet, local muffler shop suggested stock front and rear mufflers as were used on 140/240 and they would fabricate pipes. Wondering if that would hurt performance.

While at a local speed shop, I took a look at the Flowmaster mufflers - they had a display with cutaways, etc. Wondering if they would be too loud. Have to say, thought the 60 series sound bite on their web site sounded good.

Along with you, I am looking forward to responses.

On one of the older threads someone suggested using a muffler from a turbo 240. Has anyone used a Volvo muffler? On my 240 I put the ipd kit on it that has the larger pipe and just one muffler behind the axle. It is only slightly louder and I gained 1 MPG.
