89 volvo 240 obd code 2-1-4 200 1989

Hi again out there,

My brother owns a 89 volvo 240 DL that runs fine at times, then runs really rough or not at all. The code came up as 2-1-4, this might be a CPS, or ???. Just want to make sure it is not the Speed sensor in the differential.
Any advice/help would be appreciated greatly.

If you are getting a 2-1-4 and the test wire is in socket #6, you need a new crank position sensor. It is located just behind the cylinder head where the engine and transmission bolt together. Inspect the harness coming out of it just above the sensor, if the insulation is cracked/missing, you are experiencing the common failure of this part. If I recall correctly, a new crank position sensor is under $20 from FCP Groton.

If you are getting 2-1-4 from socket #2 of the diagnostic connector, it is invalid and unheard of.

It is the CPS that is failing....

The original post today was by "HACKj" and had no replies.
I didn't notice the old date and replied only to see a bunch of replies
      and the 2009 date.

Aren't there any bad guys that can use someone hacking them?

Read up on the CPS in the Brickboard 700/900 FAQ. It's under engine sensors. The 240 CPS is in the same location, same setup.

Guys with long skinny arms seem to find it easy to change. Short arms, maybe another story.

Big hands and fingers does not help either. It has been awhile since Jorrell bought a CPS, FCP wants $35 for them now.
