Air Filter Box mod-does the thermostat matter? 200

Was reading through some old posts and found info on the air box mod-plugging the hot air passage so that it doesn't ruin the AMM.

After doing this mod will the thermostat in the air filter box have any purpose at all? Is it needed?

Thanks.

I would just Rip the whole stinking thing out. Plug the hole at the bottom with a cap off a spray can and seal it with come duct tape.

Then go over and unbolt the heat shield and chunk that rotten tube that used to run over the breather box.

You will never miss it, the AMM will last a lot longer, and that heat shield and hose will no longer be in the way.

Did all that three years ago and I pass emissions with flying colors every year. The car does not run any worse in cooler weather either.

    Regards,

    Paul

Just had placed an order for various parts I needed from eeuroparts, luckily I was able to cancel the air box thermostats.

So I will be doing the mod on the both my 1990 244 and 1992 245.

In the county where I live here in PA we don't have emissions testing so I won't have to worry.

be carefull if your state has a visual inspection... at least here in slo ca, they require you to have the hose... it needs to at least looked hooked up to pass... they failed my cars po, because it didnt have it..

Agree that if it looks like there should be a hose, they might catch it. The way around that is to make it appear nothing is missing.

That is why I pulled the heat shield off and removed all the other stuff like the hose and the clamps for it. Cleaned the area so it showed no evidence of a clamp or a heat shield. Even took a wire brush to the exhaust manfold so it all looked the same. The hole for the breather box is at the bottom and hidden by the belly pan. If they even look under they see a dirty black plastic cover.

Did the same thing for the vacuum hose that ran over to vacuum sensor over by the fender well. The manifold has a plug where the vacuum connection to the manifold used to be and the line is gone on that side of the engine. Have the old vacuum line hooked up to the sensor and plugged up out of sight under the alternator. They are never going to catch it if it looks like it is connected. Well, if you get unlucky at catch a Volvo guy on the station maybe. Not going to happen down here at the place I use.

        Regards,

        Paul
