How to drain old gas? 900 1993

I am ready to fire up my project turbo but I'd like to get most of the 18 month old gas out of the tank. I've been unsuccessful at sticking a siphon hose down the filler tube. I'd rather not deal with the PITA process of removing the tank pump but it might be possible to get a small tube through the vent port in the cover?

My other idea is disconnecting the fuel line a head of the main pump and connecting a hose out to my 5 gallon fuel cans. Then just turning the key. But I'll need to defeat the FR that kills the pump with no spark, (easy on a 240, but I don't know how to do on a 940.

Any other ideas?

Yes, you can do as Art says—being careful to note the Fuel relay's orientation as you remove it. Terminal 30 is a corner location and 87/2 is in the middle of the other row of three.

Or take the cover off a Fuel relay and force the contacts closed with something like a piece of hose, as in photo below, then insert relay into rack, using Fuse #1 to control power On/Off.

I would rig a dump hose from the spring-clamped return line fitting at the fuel rail.

Hi there,

Your turbo has both pumps, right? A short jumper with a male 1/4" spade on either end can be stuffed into the fuel injection relay socket where the pin 30 and pin 87/2 go in. That should turn on both pumps. Hope Lucid chimes in, because he's a 900 owner who has done this.

I've emptied tanks this way (240's, yes, going to Valhalla) using the return port of the fuel pressure regulator as the place to clamp the hose.

On another point, I had no trouble with a tank full of 5 year old gas, once all my suspicions were allayed by finding an alternate explanation for the troubles I did have. Did change the filter, and rinsed injector screens, however. I'm sure you want to be more careful with a turbo, though.

Power up the pump and connect a hose where it goes into the fuel rail is how I usually do it. Likelyhood is though that 18 month old petrol will work, especially if the tank isn't full of it. Just top it up with fresh fuel and don't cane the car until it's all out.
