Once again I have looked over the BB for more info.
DEWFPO always has cogent words. He posted earlier this:

B.C., we had the compressor/clutch replaced on our 95 960 because the bearing in the clutch went bad and was making a hell of a screeching racket A/C on or off it didn't matter. It cost us $650 total for the compressor/clutch assembly including R & R and recharge. It might have been a re-man'd unit.

My question: Was the $650 for R&R of the compressor and it's clutch, or just the clutch?
My indie shop quoted $1400 for the complete unit, saying that the clutch shim job would require pulling the compressor off the car and that a 200K mile compressor was going to need replacement soon anyway.
Additionally - Tom90 and I removed the compressor off a S90 engine with the engine out of the car. It was much more than we expected, requiring removal of a number of things just to access the mounting bolts. It was hard to see how such a removal could be done with the engine in the car. Any suggestions for "how-to" that I could use when swapping the "new" compressor and clutch into my 1997 965?
Many thanks to you, and to all who answer these a/c questions.
Bob
