Frame and body panels 1800 1973

Does anyone have an opinion on repair vs replace.
Also on a supplier for frame pieces and a body panel or two.

Is it best to replace an entire front clip or repair the one I have. I do not want to use bondo if possible. i would weld in new steel. I have heard welding in a new full panel is difficult to align properly.
I have some nastiness around the headlights. I am no bodyman but i could see fabrication of that piece being very difficult.
I also need some of the usual frame pieces like jacking points, crossmembers etc.

I am not trying to build a trailer queen but i wouldn't mind a decent, safe body.
Any input would be appreciated

Also from Ontario, and have done similar repair.
If you are a novice welder, it may be better to have a pro, who has worked on one of these cars, do the serious fitting and installation of repair pieces. Replacement body panels are too rare and exspensive to make a mistake on. Other pieces that will not be seen after completion may be done by a novice. All pieces must be fit properly for this type of body style to be repaired correctly. Other wise body panels will be out of alignment, and the doors won't fit properly.

Also makes a difference as to what type of welder you are using. Stay away from brazing or stick, as they heat up the metal too much and cause warping. Shielded arc mig is the way to go.

I used the rocker and quarterpanel repair panels with new front panels.

If you have any rot in the forward sub frame where the idler arm or steering box are fit, it must be repaired and not boxed over to be a safe repair. Look at these mounting places while someone turns the steering wheel, while the wheels are on the ground and the car is not moving. Look for flex of the metal where they are mounted.
Any questions just ask

Thanks Doug.
I will not be honing my welding skills on my ES. That is a for sure.
Was speaking to you and Bill in Iderton this year. Nice car BTW.
I bought the exhaust tips from you.

The decision to hand your welding duties over to a competent professional for what you need to do, is, I think, a good one. Getting all the stuff to line up all at once is 5 parts skill, 2 parts black magic, and one part luck. I hope it comes out great!

I am in Ontario Canada.

I researched Scandcar.nl
They show the headlight surround in a 2 piece and the weld ring to tie them in. looks nice but not sure what it is in reality. That could save me the fender replacement which I was not looking forward too.

You are too far to do this together. I am down in Maryland.

I wouldn't be too scared to replace the whole quarter panel.
