I scored a set of headlights with factory fogs to go on my '95 944. They are off a Euro car (if that makes an installation difference).
The outer end of the HL assembly bolts right into the two holes in the fender. However, I find no holes to which to mount the inner end of the HL assembly. The existing HL assembly is fitted in with one or two screws that go through a mounting flange of some sort that bolts to the core support, and then they screw into the inner end of the HL assembly. However, that flange piece has to come out, since the HL w/fogs assembly is 3-4 inches longer than the version w/no fogs. I don't see a place to simply move that flange piece toward the center of the car and mount it there, so I'm left with nothing to which to mount the inner end of the headlight assembly.
Are there more pieces I'm going to need to install these headlamps ? If so, anybody got a line on them ? I'd really like to get these into my 940......
I also got the grille off the Euro car. Any new pieces going to be necessary for that, or do you just move existing mounting pieces at the top ?

Appreciate the guidance.
I'm on the hunt for all this stuff, so if you have any of it, or know where I can get it, please EM me right away. I'll check local JY's, but I'm not optimistic....
Yeah, I have the headlights, Euro corners, Euro HL lenses, all bulbs and pigtails, etc.....I'm just REALLY glad I checked the fit of the headlights BEFORE I started cutting wires to splice them !!!!
I'll be looking on RockAuto for those grille brackets, but the faster I can find all the other stuff, the better !
thanks to all

hello
sounds like your 95 940 did not come with the fog setup.
if not you will need to go to JY and pull the brackets, grill, trim under headlights, and some other bits from a fog light equipped 940.
you will need the foglight switch from the dash and the relay for the fogs also, either blue or orange relay in front row.
then you will need different connectors, the connector ends that fit the RSR relay will work.
a little time experimenting with a multi meter and your good to go, its not plug and play.
but worth it.
good luck
Mike

Well, if anybody has a line on the parts necessary to put these HL's with fogs into a car produced with HL's w/o fogs, I'd appreciate an e-mail. I've been going to pick n pulls in my area for a few years, and I don't remember ever seeing a 940 with factory fogs. Not seeing many mid-90's anymore - I guess they're just crushing them.
Plus, not having one in front of me w/fogs, I guess I don't really know what all I will need in the way of parts (it's kind of like asking somebody what they didn't get in the mail today.........). What I've got already is the HL housing and turn/parking corners. Plus, whatever was on my old car w/o fogs. Anything past that, I don't have.
Appreciate any help.

assuming you have all the lights and their sockets and the lock rings, then you need the grill, grill/light mounting brackets and the baffles that direct air toward the radiator (bolted to the brackets). you will also need the plastic cover on top between the grill and the hood latch.

I was forced to replace my 94' 940s non-fogs with fogs because of a deer strike. I found that you need the headlight/grill mounting bracket (steel bracket that bolts to the mounting holes in front of the radiator, also you need new plastic grill brackets. I couldn't find the steel ones so I made new brackets out of scrap angle-aluminium. RockAuto.com has the grill brackets for $7.75 apiece (pretty good quality too).
I decided to forego setting up my fogs as foglights, I wired them in parallel with the headlamps so they are on when the headlights are on. A little extra light never hurts.
PS. I like the look of those euro-fogs.

Hey, if you still have the part # at RockAuto, let me know. I don't find it on the website................
|
|
|
Their part #'s are finicky. The path I used is:
Volvo : 1994 : 940 : 2.3L 2316cc L4 FL Turbo : Body-Exterior : Grille
Each mounting bracket is $7.66
I had to fabricate the metal part of the mounting bracket (two 9.75" pieces of 2" light gauge angle aluminum)
Good luck to you.

You're going to love the new headlights.
Interestingly enough, my 2005 british copy of VADIS doesn't show the high beams (above the fogs, inboard) as being active.
Right now I have H4's, overwattage (130/100 watt) and 160w H1's up top, as well as overwattage fogs. Soon I'll be doing HID's in the H4 and Fog (H3) positions. H1 high beams inboard will stay halogen.
Anyways, if you can find someone parting a foglight equipped 940, or a 960 (until 1994 model year) or 760 (1988-1990), then that's definitely your best bet.
I assume that you're talking about a front end that looks like the silver car in this photo to one that looks like my red car?

Here's another photo, and there will be a third coming, to help give you an idea of how different it all actually is...

As you can see there's quite the snub nose on the 740 / 940 non-fog headlamps...

I'd also suggest that while you're in there, splicing away, since you're doing so much rewiring anyway that you consider a relay upgrade. It helps keep the voltage up since the headlights are run right off the battery, basically, and a relay is triggered by the switch.
Not the best photo, but here's mine, they're bolted to the CAI wall. One is for the low beams, the other for high beams, and one for my foglights. In this picture, you're looking at the bottom of the relays. They're available at any store, and in fact I have two as spares.
Hope this little visualization helps you out! If there's anything else I can do for you don't hesitate to let me know.
