I have 1986 245 and the manual transimissin mount is bad. I searched and did find the procedure t0 replace it.

Do I need remove the cross member ? How hard it is?

Thanks for any input.

    got a grinder?

    to get more turning radius from your wrench grind out the useless material on the tranny mount bracket... you'll love it...

    I've replaced 3 of these and I've removed the cross member every time cuz it's so much easier to just bolt the entire mount into the member, after the grinding aforementioned, it's as easy as changing oil.

      One thing I know for certain about engineers - they are schooled to get the most bang for the buck regardless of the grade of work they are assigned to design. With that in mind, what useless metal did they forget to eliminate?

      Make sure the front mounts are good first. If they are soggy the whole unit can move backwards, making it very difficult to realign the mounting bolts. Also scary when you see how little is supporting everything.

    I did the one on my brother's '76, manual trans without pulling the cross member. Unbolt, jack up the back of the trans, slide new one in, tighten nuts.

    In any case, pulling the cross member isn't that difficult if you have to do it.

    Just make sure that thing is up on good solid stands before you get under it.

      I find it easier to loosen the bolts for the cross member, it gives you more room to remove and install the mount.
