do all 940 have power locks? 900 1994

I checked the relay in one of my other 940s and it appears good. Before I go taking the doors panels off to trace my no-locks problem, I just want to make sure that all 940 have power locks standard.

They do exist, I've seen one with manual locks and manual windows all round. As to whether they made it out of Europe.....

VIN is R1 which is supposed to be 1994 out of Sweden

      Car fax says 10/26/1993
      NICB Vehicle manufactured
      and shipped to original dealer
      11/23/1993 Odometer 57 Florida
      Motor Vehicle Dept.
      Palm Coast, FL

where it lived it's whole life until I brought it two weeks ago.

I'll live with manual locks until my patience wears out, in a week or so. Then I'll dig into virgin upholstery

      Thanks for the research.

        Dear Soundmiami,

May this find you well. A window crank handle shows that the windows are not powered. However, with a the door panel for a car with manual locks is the same as one with powered locks.

Before taking apart the doors, I'd check the central electrical panel (behind the front center console ashtray). If powered locks are present, there will be a socket for a relay (#3523739 and so marked; also marked Hella 5ZA 005 423-01). It is in the middle of the front row, that closest to the shift lever.

This relay is black (or very dark brown), and is an inch high, about 1.5" long and about 1" wide. It is easily identified, because rather than being a rectangle, it has a section that is narrower at one end.

If this relay is present, then the doors have powered locks, which - for some reason - are not working. If the relay is missing - and there is a socket in the relay panel to which wires connect - then the first thing to do is to get the relay and install it. If there is no socket - only an empty space - in the middle of front row of relays, then the car indeed has manually-operated locks.

        Hope this helps.

        Yours faithfully,

        Spook

I have never run across a 740 or 940 without power locks.

I will be watching this thread closely as I just picked up a 1994 944T with nonworking door locks. With a good relay in place I can get a short "whir" sound from the drivers door when locking or unlocking the door.

I had the door panel off and could not figure out how to get at the mechanism in the door nor how to remove it. A post here on removal brought no procedures either.

I needed to use the car for a trip and put the door panel back on and have not had the opportunity to get back to it because of other Volvo projects.

Yes, cloth, but it has most every other option so I guessed it had the locks. It appears every clip, screw, wire tie and label is exactly as it was the day it left Torslanda and I didn’t want to start disassembling the brittle 15 year old plastic bits until I was sure,
      Thanks

        Dear soundmiami,

May this find you well. I've been in lots of 740s, 940s, and 960s - in a salvage yard - and do not recall seeing any that did not have power locks. The trim level - cloth or leather - makes no difference.

There are 940s with non-powered seats and some with a powered driver's seat only. Almost all 960s have two powered seats.

I mention the seat options, because that variety suggests that there could be Volvo 700 or 900 series cars without powered locks. However, if so, they do not seem to have been sold in North America.

        Hope this helps.

        Yours faithfully,

        Spook
