We'll be fitting a new aftermarket cat to a new OE front pipe on my son's Regina 940. The mating joint uses the "donut" ring seal and spin flanges, so I think fitting the cat pipe to muffler inlet should go OK.
Bosal is about $125 at FCP, Carsound is $140 at eEuro.
I'm leaning toward the BOSAL, not for the price but merely because I've never heard of "Carsound".
Any preferences?

I just did this same job not 2 months ago on my 92 Regina. Got the Carsound from Eeuro, and the pipe exiting the cat connecting to the resonator pipe was just slightly too short - resulting in a slight gap from the two slits on either side, and leaking exhaust. Nothing a little high-temp epoxy putty couldn't fix, but annoying nonetheless. Not sure if the brand listed makes a difference, though - there was nothing on the replacement cat or box to indicate if it was actually a Carsound, and when I compared it with a "Bosal" cat I bought for my 93 turbo, they appeared to be identical.
Either way, I don't think anything will match the quality of the original in this case, so you might as well go for the cheapest you can find....

Hi Bruce,
Not that I have any faith in brand name as an indicator of quality, especially when we view one or two-lot examples, but I installed a cat several years ago that came from FCP in a Carsounds box, with nothing to call attention to it, beyond the curiosity that it was listed as "A&B" in the catalog.

Thanks Art.
Very timely, as I was just about to launch a Benstein Bosal search recalling your contributions with pics in a thread I stumbled on concerning fitment problems.
I think the spin flange Cat front end will allow some rotation, if needed at the other end. That, plus mating to an OE front pipe will make for a good fit I hope.

Somebody mentioned this place the other day:
http://www.alleuro.com/index.php
Their online catalogue doesn't mention a cat for 740/940 NA's, but maybe if you call them.....
On the ones they do list, they list the manufacturer as "Volvo Misc. Parts". Their claim is that the retail price is ~$600 and their price is ~$100. It might be worth a look-see to find out exactly what they're selling

Thanks Ted,
I forgot that I'd discovered the Carsound/MagnaFlow kinship. But I haven't been to Summit in a long time. Their Bosal $106 price beats eEuro's $140 w/free shipping. But Summmit's shipping $$ would wash some of that away. Anyhow, a few bucks isn't my concern as much as quality, based on reputation which is all I can go on.
I'd also forgotten about the CATco Brand. The price is OK, but I don't think it's a common brand in foreign aftermarket. Not Volvo at least, but worth considering.
EDIT: Summit can't ship either of them until 7/10 or 7/13, too late for me.
But thanks anyway.

I don't usually come over here (stay in the 200 forum). You might try DEC. I found out about them through a BMW group. Used one on my 87 245 last time I needed a cat. Price was good and there were no fitment issues.
