For Fathers' Day I got a new headliner in my 745...IPD kit. Everything went smoothly, and the job looks great...except for one stupid error on my part. I cut the sunroof opening out too close to the headliner panel, and the 3/16" or so wide trim doesn't reach the edge of the fabric.

Does anyone out there have any suggestions for a source for a wider trim material? 7/16" or 1/2" should work, even if I have to trim one side down to fit the channel in the sunroof pan?

Thanks to everyone who posted in the RWD forum and on the FAQ, as the job was much easier than it would have been with just the IPD instructions.

I have the same issue actually. I did the same thing and didn't realize this would happen.

1990 740 Turbo, on its way to stock specs, maybe beyond

I picked up some 1/2" windlace trim this morning from a local auto trim shop. This is good stuff. Has a metal interior channel, and two interior flanges, yet was flexible enough to go around the corners. It only comes in black leather-grain finish, but looks pretty good in place.

The owner sold me 10 feet at $2.00/foot, and that was more than enough. He also said that it can be covered in the same fabric as the headliner, if you want a custom look. I tried it on a scrap piece, and it looks like you could just wrap a 1-1/4" inch or so strip around it, then install the trim.

I just installed the trim without covering it; took a putty knife, a pair of side cutters, and 19 minutes!

No solution so far, but I'm going to try 3/8" door edge trim tomorrow. Also, a local shop says they have a black vinyl 1/2" c-channel, which could be covered w/ headliner material. I'll check that out tomorrow, too, and let you know.

Personally, I wouldn't object to black trim in that location...enough of the interior trim is black, already.
