Is there a reason no one has done this? 120-130

Well, I have a '67 122. If I understand correctly, I have the Dana 30 rear axle with the 10 spline shafts. This sucks with regard to finding an LSD.

Whats to stop me from using the axle internals from a 240? swapping out the bearings, the half shafts, the diff, everything and throwing into the 122? I know it would change the rear bolt pattern, but I could live with that for he disc brakes and greater LSD selection. It would also stop me from having to weld the 122 mounts onto a 240 axle.

Is the 122 housing shorter or something? Why wont this work?

If money is no object, Currie enterprises will custom build an absolutely bulletproof rear axle for your 122. Have your cardiologist on hold while you're on their website ordering it up! Just kidding here, of course. An 1800ES or 1800E, as previously mentioned, is probably the answer. The last one I priced out was about $325.00 USD. Good luck to you.

I don't know to what extent the innards of a 240 diff would swap over, but the axles are much longer. The simpler way to do it is to swap the whole rear end from a 1800E or ES -- the track is the same, it all bolts up, and it has 27-spline axles you can easily find LSDs for.

indeed... *if* the '67 in question is a sedan... Wagon suspension is, of course, different.

And, there's the need to swap front hub stuffs to keep a consistent bolt pattern.

And.. I've yet to hear a definitive result of the single circuit brake system with the 4 wheel disc brakes that were designed for the dual circuit setup.

All of which is not to say I don't plan on trying something at least similar, but.. I've got a wagon. My plan is to weld wagon suspension brackets to a 140 rear end that's already equipped with LSD.. Track is only slightly wider..

As for the original question.. 240 half shafts simply won't work. Aside from the fact they are indeed wider (longer half shafts), the outer bearing setup is completely different.

Why, oh why, Volvo... did you use 10 spline Dana 30 rears? My guess is a big pile of leftover Dana 27 half shafts...

I have a two pot Wilwood master cylinder working on my 66 wagon with a 1800ES rear, but it's not set up as a dual circuit, just front and rear, and it may not be the definitive answer. Same bolt pattern on the firewall though.
