Wagon tailgate needs adjustment 200 1983

Now that my wagon is running flawlessly with its new distributor impulse sensor, I can now move on to other areas of concern. I appreciate all the advice I got from you guys while tracking down that problem.

Has anyone dealt with this before? My tailgate hangs down a shade below the roofline. The only problem with that is that the hinge end attached to the gate comes in contact with the roof on one side. This contact has been enough that a small area of rust has begun to form. Obviously, I want to deal with this before it gets worse. I'll have to remove the tailgate to get at the rusted area. Any ideas on how best to raise or shim the gate when I put it back on?

Jim

My '85 wagon also has the hatch a little below the roof line. I found this out while looking for the cause of water seeping in when it rains, afterwards when opening the hatch, there is always water accumulated at the bottom of the door (in the curved part of the gasket). But I have not been able to figure how to move the door up, and have not been able to stop the water seeping either.

My tailgate sagged slightly, could barely notice it. I discovered the strike plate on the door sill was worn and missing a plastic piece on one side. I got a better replacement at the bone yard for $1 and that fixed it.

Interesting! It hasn't occurred to me that the flaw might be at the bottom of the tailgate. I'll check that out ... thanks!
